Kumbi Awang High School, HM English High School and st Xavier English School recorded convincing victories against respective opponents while Ukhrul higher Secondary School pipped Jiribam Government Hr Sec School by a solitary goal to reach the semi final stage of the Under-17 State level Subroto Mukherjee football tournament being played at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium.
After blanking Samurou's Little Master English School representing Imphal West district 3-0 in a morning match today, the Ukhrul institute players showed hardly any sign of tiredness to upstage the Jiribam side in the last match of the day as P Peimi's 54th minute goal ensured the last four berth.
Earlier in the day, Bishnupur district champion Kumbi Awang HS made their way to the semi finals trouncing Bethany English School of Senapati 4-0.A Sonamani spearheading the winning side slammed home in the eighth and 13th minutes of the 60 mi-nute contest with goals from Ch Arun (12th) and E somokanta (59th) setting up the comfortable win.
The second quarter final tie between Churachandpur district's HM EHS and Kangpokpi High School saw Tongchinhao Simte breaking the deadlock in the 17th minute before the former school raced to a 3-0 lead with goals from Khaizakham (29th) and T Mangminthang's first of three coming at the half hour mark of the pulsating duel.
Mangminthang completed his hattrick finding the rival net in the 37th and 43rd minutes as Khaiminthang bulged the win margin with a 50th minute contribution.
The Kangpokpi side responded with strikes from Kamgoumang (33rd, 49th) and T Samuel (56th).Exhibiting team cohesion mixed with individual brilliance five St Xavier English School players figured in the Imphal East district's 6-0 pounding of Koinonia Training School representing Chandel district.
Gojen scored two second half goals within a span of one minute as G Arun (14th), Naranjit (36th), Anand (44th) and Suican (54th) chipped in the Chandel school demolition.
the semi final matches will feature schools from Ukhrul and Churachandpur at 1 pm while the Imphal East institution is pitted against Kumbi HS in second tie at 2.30 pm.
The competition began yesterday with 11 schools representing the nine districts and two subdivisions taking part in it.
