Tough task for Indian eves in AFC qualifiers

New Delhi, Aug 01: India would need to get past Myanmar, Singapore and Thailand to gain a place in the AFC Under-19 Women's football championship when the qualifiers take place from Nov 4 to 18.A total of 13 nations have been included in the qualifiers while Vietnam's participation is still not final.

Three qualification groups have been formed on regional basis with the top team making it to the finals to be played from Nov 7-18, 2007.The hosts have not been decided yet.

Japan, North Korea, Australia, China and Korea Republic qualify directly for the championship in which the eight teams will be split into two groups of four for a round-robin league.

The top two sides from each pool will make it to the semifinals.

Meanwhile, the Asian qualifiers for the women's football competition at the Beijing 2008 Olympics will be held over two rounds next year with 14 teams taking part.

Japan and North Korea have been seeded into the second round while the other 12 teams, including India, will be divided into three groups of four each for a round robin format.

The top two teams from each pool will make it to the second round.

The next stage will see them join Japan and North Korea and they will be split into two groups for home and away matches in a league format.
