Moreh, January 08:
Meetei Council Cricket Team (MCCT) outplayed Bachelors' Youth Welfare Association (BYWA) by 84 runs to record its maiden entry into the final of the Pongal Cricket 2005-06 to be played on January 10 against Sunrise Youth Club.
Electing to bat first in the second semi final at SRYC ground, Moreh today, MCCT amassed 241 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the 29th over (truncated) with Ibobi once again hogging the limelight with a belligerent knock of 43 off only 38 balls.
Top order batsmen Sanayaima and Ibotomba too contributed to the team's imposing total with 38 runs each.
Even though MCCT managed only 97 runs at the end of 15th over losing three wickets in the process some brilliant rear guard action, especially from Achou 21 (14) and Ibotomba who faced only 22 balls for his 38, produced 134 runs from the last 14 overs thereby laying the foundation for the comprehensive victory.
Faced with the daunting tasks BYWA batsmen tried to play adventurous shots to reduce the asking rate but lost wickets at regular interval as MCCT bowlers RK Surendro Singh (4 wkts) and Ibotomba (3) ran through the opponent's batting line-up.
