Cambridge English School, Lamphel representing Imphal West and Imphal East institute Model Pioneer English School of Nongpok Sanjenbam respectively emerged girls and boys champions of the State Level JN Hockey Tournament.
In the under-17 girls final played at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium today, Cambridge girls walked home winner by a score margin of 2-0 against Model Pioneer English School.
In a match dominated by the Imphal West school, P Ranjita produced the opener in the eight minute of play while K Aruna ensured the smooth win with a 40th minute goal.
Six penalty corners forced by champion team compared to naught for the Imphal East school sums up the strangle-hold Cambridge girls had in the contest.
However, the Imphal East boys compensated for the final loss when they exploited lack of team cohesion among Mukta High School, Moirang players in defence as well as upfront.
The Bishnupur district school ran out of ideas to contain the Model school forwards who not only breached the opponent defence at will but also enforced eight penalty corners in the process.
Kh Rabikanta slammed home the Model opener with his first of two six minutes into play.
His second came in the 31st minute.
N Biken, amarjit Goswami and K Deveshwor sounded the Mukta board on one occasion each to round off the comfortable victory.
Raja Dumbra Singh High School, Imphal East had retained the under-17 boys� title of the tournament defeating Scholar English School, Bishnupur.
Only the two institutes had competed in the tournament organised by Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt of Manipur.
Champion schools of respective group would represent the State in the national level JN hockey championship to be held at Delhi from October 16.
