Imphal, June 27:
Mixing steely composure with well calculated moves S Premjit subdued spirited G Inao Sharma to be crowned the champion of the 14th edition of Kh Anou Singh Memorial State Level Open Chess Tournament.
On the final day of the competition at Kwakeithel Junior Boys School today, Premjit forced Inao to resign in the 50th move to annex the title for the second time in the history of the tournament organized by Kwakeithel Chess Club.
Despite culling the same point and progressive score (5/22) as RK Bhogen, Inao had to settle for sixth position as draw of lot favored the former.
The second position went to L Koireng (5.5/23 PS) who split points with Bhogen while four time champion RK Apollosana wrested the third spot following tame surrender of his opponent Bhupendranath.
Reigning champion S Vikramjit Singh overcame Romeo to tally 5.5 points and 22.5 PS for the fourth place.
T Loken relegated PR Prasad to the eighth position on better PS as both finished the tournament at five points each.
