Meiraa, Bashikhong clinched the third position in both the Under-14 and 16 category of the State Level Sub-Junior Hockey tournament at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium today.
In the play-off for the third spot of the under-14 match, the Bashikhong boys drubbed KhSC, Khongman 5-0 while their seniors had to sweat out for a 7-6 verdict via the tie-breaker over ESU, Wangkhei.
W Roshan opened the score account for Meiraa under-14 with a second minute field goal before doubling his personal tally with a 29th minute strike as Jomison converted a penalty corner in the 14th for the side's second goal.
N Ganendrajit bulged the score in the 18th minute to take the break with a comfortable lead of 3-0 in the one hour contest.
KhSC's hopes for revival in the second half suffered a major setback as the Meiraa players not only cut short their forays but added the fifth goal through W Boynao in the 49th.Later, in a keenly contested under-16 play-off for the same position, Meiraa came from two goals down to level at full time before emerging winner over their Wangkhei opponent at 7-6 in the penalty shoot-out.
Ph Arun provided the breakthrough for ESU with a fourth minute strike before Ph Suraj increased the tally one minute later.
Even though Meiraa pulled back one in the very next minute through N Go-bin's penalty corner con- version Th Ranjan regained the two goal lead for ESU in the 18th minute.
K Chinglensana's 19 minute cracker closed the goal gap for Meiraa as first half hooter was sounded with the score at 3-2.In the see saw battle for supremacy, ESU's G Ronal scored the fourth goal two minutes into the second session.
However, Chinglensana's field goal in the 34th minute raised the Meiraa hope to stay in contention for the third position before Kh Jenson eventually restored parity in the 45th minute.
