Assam won the overall champion in the northeast zone inter-state badminton championship and IX northeast open badminton championship which conclude today at DM College indoor stadium here.
After making a clean sweep in the team events, Assam grabbed six titles out of eight on offer to lift the overall champions of the four day championship which begun on September 27.Mizoram emerged as runners up.
Barring men's single and junior boys double Assam shuttlers proved their dominance in remaining six categories - junior boys� single, junior girls single, women's single, junior girls double, men's double and women's double.
The championship was organised by Manipur Badminton Association under the aegis of badminton Association of India.
In the junior boys single, Anshuman Hazarika defeated his Nagaland opponent Parikshit Bhagabati in a decider 15-17, 17-15, 15-2.Anshuman entered final after defeating Lalrinkima of Mizoram 15-12, 6-15, 15-4 while Parikshit Bhagabati defeated H Kishan of Manipur in another semi-final 15-10, 15-9.In the junior girls final Abantika Deka of Assam defeated her state mate Anjali Kalita 11-7, 11-4.Abantika entered final after defeating H Thianghlimi of Mizoram 11-2, 11-1 while Anjali defeated Y Kananbala of Manipur 11-7, 11-4.Joseph Sumi of Nagaland beat L Nandakumar of Manipur in the men's single final in a decider by 15-12, 17-15, 15-5.Joseph Sumi beat Anshuman Hazarika of Assam 17-15, 15-11 while L Nandakumar defeated Ankur Baruah of Assam 15-6, 3-15, 15-6 in semi-finals.
In the women's single final, Anjali Kalita defeated her teammate Manali Sinha 11-5, 11-6.Anjali defeated A Rekha of Manipur 11-2, 11-0 while Manali got walk over Imlirenla of Nagaland in the semi-finals.
In the junior boys� double final, Lalhmingsanga and Zodinmawia of Mizoram defeated Parikshit Bhagabati and Rohan Chalhiha of Assam 15-2, 15-2.In the junior girls� double final, Abantika Deka and Rmi Hazarika of Assam defeated Bendangnaro and Ekumyala of Nagaland 15-2, 15-0.In the men's double final, Assam duo Anirban Chetia and Bahniman Borah defeated L Muanawma and L Remruata of Mizoram 15-5, 15-6.Assam duo defeated Sh Momon Shrma and L Prahlada of Manipur 15-2, 15-7 in the semi-final.
In the women's double final, Rimi hazarika and Abantika Deka defeated A Rekha and S Rameshwori of Manipur 15-1, 15-1.Manipur youth affairs and sports minister K Govindas gave away the trophies and gift hampers to the winners and other participants during a closing function held in the DM College indoor stadium.
