Imphal, May 18:
Taking serious note of the dilapidated condition of the Irilbung suspension bridge built over Iril river and the risk it poses to the commuters, the bridge has been closed to all commuters and the general public with effect from today.
Speaking to reporters today, general secretary of the Irilbung Library Union N Santa informed that following failure of the authority concerned to repair the bridge in time, the bridge has slanted to a perilous position.
He conveyed fear that a strong current may washed away the bridge any time.
To ward off any casualty and to draw attention of the State Government, the decision to close the bridge was adopted by the local people, said Santa while adding that the bridge will be closed until and unless the authority concerned take up measures to repair the bridge.
