Adoption of SRI method of cultivation, which is a new technology, would help in overcome food grain shortage in Manipur, Deputy Chairman of State Planning and MLA Board Bijoy Koijam has claimed.
Bijoy today inspected the preparation being made for cultivation of PAC-807 Hybrid rice at Koirou Loukon in his Thongju Assembly Constituency today.
He was accompanied by Deputy Director (Planning) of Agriculture Department G Shamu Kabui and ICDP Rice in-charge L Ibomcha during the inspection.
Preparation for cultivation of PAC 807 rice is currently being made over a total area of 16 Paris including 10 paris in Koirou Loukon, 5 paris in Pitna Panung and 1 pari in Wangkhei Loumanbi.
Interacting with the farmers after the inspection, Bijoy assured that adoption of the new technology of SRI method of cultivation would resolve the problem of foodgrain shortage in Manipur.
He also appealed to the farmers to use natural manure instead of chemical fertiliser in their field.
ICDP Rice in-charge L Ibomcha informed that adequate stock of PAC 807 rice seeds for the early cultivation at places where there are sufficient drainage system have been arranged and the dedicated farmers can avail these seeds and other required farming equipment free of cost.
