In all 15 persons involved in roughing up volunteers of AMADA Bishnupur District Council during anti-alcohol/drug drive at Moirang area on February 18 have surrendered to the said district unit yesterday.
Apart from assaulting the volunteers an auto rickshaw used in the drive was also damaged when residence of one Laiphrakpam Ibemhal (41) of Moirang Phairembam Leikai was raided following information that Ibemhal was involved in sale of the banned item, said an AMADA release.
The surrendered persons have been identified as Ibemhal, Phairembam Tapta, Konjengbam Inaoba, Phairembam Amuba, Moirangthem Boby, K Dewan, K Inao, Mairembam Langam, Phairembam Gulamjat, RK Ratan, Konjengbam Nanda, Unam Bijen, Philem Jayenta, Kiyam Lokendro and Phairembam Mangijao.
Volunteers of AMADA�s Sendra unit also conducted anti-alcohol/drugs drive from February 8 till 20 during which five persons have been apprehended from separate places along with 415 litres of country brew.
The five are named as Moirangthem Mangi Leima (37) of Ething Mamang Leikai, Khwairakpam Lemleima (27) of Ething Mamang Leikai, Khwairakpam Kishori Leima (25) of Ething Heikol Leikai, Khwairakpam Dinesh Meetei (26) of Ething Maning Leikai and Thokchom Ibecha Leima (28) Moirang Thana Leikai.
Meanwhile, activists of AMADA Pheidinga Local Council apprehended one Raju Yadav (42) s/o Ramdeo yadav of Bihar, presently a resident of Kangpokpi bazar, at around 4.30 pm yesterday and seized 32,500 pieces of talab along with 1050 pieces of khaini worth over Rs 70,000. Raju Yadav has been handed over to family members after a stern warning against indulging in trade of banned tobacco items, added the AMADA release.
