Imphal, June 02:
Recalling the spontaneous uprising of the people against the Bangkok Declaration on June 18 in 2001 and the sacrifice made by 18 martyrs to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur, HERICO- UN today however said that the true essence of the day is in danger of getting lost due to the game of one up-manship between groups of people.
In a statement HERI-COUN reminded all that the June Uprising was a spontaneous movement and it would be wrong to give it any political colour.
Moreover the historic event sho- uld not be used any organisation to better its image.
The hard won victory of the people and the sacrifice made to save the boundary of Manipur would go in vain if June 18 is used as a day to propagate one's own agen-da.
The victory will then be turned into a defeat, said HERICOUN and added that this will be to the advantage of the enemy.
It would be in the fitness of things to observe June 18 unitedly then, added HERICOUN.
