Imphal, May 25:
Stating that there would be no laxity in the ongoing pursuit for promotion of Meetei Mayek, newly appointed office bearers of MEELAL today announced intense survey of educational institutes to ascertain implementation of indigenous script.
"if volunteers find any schools ignoring the language the Government would be apprised to initiate appropriate action," declared newly appointed MEELAL president Ngaseppam Yumjao after a simple oath taking ceremony at the Royal Palace this afternoon.
Among others the new appointees pledged to profusely pursue setting up a research centre of the indigenous script/language at Manipur university, campaign for inscribing the script in hoardings, sign-boards, amendment of Manipur Official Language Act and insistence on the script (letter) recognised by the Government also appealed to local astrologers (panji) for replacing bengali script with Meetei Mayek in their profession.
Taking note of reduced space provided to script in the State dailies, the MEELAL office bearers also reminded media organisations of the agreement reached with the script body.
