Imphal, August 24: Committee on Human Rights (COHR) has condemned the torture and atrocities allegedly meted out by a combined force of 21 Assam Rifles and State Police Commandos to one Thiyam Muhindro (61), his daughter Thiyam Premila Chanu (18), Elangbam Geeta (22) and other residents of Tokpa Ching in Thoubal district on August 23.Maintaining that the action of the security personnel in targeting innocent civilian including two women was unfortunate, COHR called upon the Govt for instituting of a high level investigation into the incident and pulling up the guilty personnel.

The Committee has also demanded repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act under whose shield the security forces have been targeting innocent people with accountability.
