Imphal, June 02:
Volunteers of the All Manipur Anti-Drug Association seized strips of SP tablets from two persons during a special drive taken up at Kwakeithel on June 1 and one of them is alleged to be a member of an NGO working against drug abuse.
The two are identified as K Priyokumar (34) of Kwakeithel Thokchom Leikai and N Naobi (20) of Kwakeithel.
Speaking to reporters Tembi Leima, deputy secretary of the Drive Committee of AMADA, Hqs said that Priyokumar is attached to the NGO Wide Angle, which functions under MACS and added that is working a Peer Educator for the Rapid Intervention and Care (RIAC).
Eight pieces of SP tablets were seized from Priyo-kumar while eight strips and 4 piece of SP tablets were seized from Naobi.
Asserting that AMADA has taken a serious note of the matter, Leima said that it is unfortunate that the very set of people engaged in fighting against drug abuse should themselves be involved in consuming drugs as well as selling it to others.
All NGOs have been urged to remain alert.
