The imposition of road blockade along the route connecting Manipur University and Samurou, which is more popularly known as Chajing Lambi since May 20 has been lifted from today.
Demanding repairing of the said road, aggrieved local people dug up half of the road and closed it to traffic since May 20.However, following the assurance given by social worker S Ashokumar of Heirangoithong Maibam Leikai to take up the responsibility of repairing the said route without any assistance from the Government or other authorities concerned, the agitating local people agreed to call off their agitation.
Consequently, necessary ground works for repairing the road which has been reportedly lying in neglected for the last many years by the Government and the local MLA has begun from today.
Talking to mediapersons in this connection, social worker Ashokumar clarified that his intention of taking up the responsibility of repairing the neglected road does not have any connection with any person.
On hearing about the difficulties faced by the people, Ashokumar said he had approached the authorities concerned to find out if there were any proposal for construction of the said road.
As there was none, he decided to repair the road himself.
Ashokumar informed that he is keeping the target of completing repairing of the road within 45 days from today.
