A training programme on sugarcane plantation was held at New Salem of Senapati district today under the joint initiative of Agriculture Officer (Sugarcane) of the State's Agriculture Department and Saikul Block Congress Committee.
Subject matter specialist N Biren presented a detailed account on ways to practice sugarcane plantation for augmenting economy of the hill area cultivators besides informing that sugarcane plantation checks soil erosion.
Owing to high capability of sugarcane plants to harvest solar radiation that could be subsequently converted into chemical energy consumption of the crop variety plays a vital role in supplementing energy intake, he said.
According to a release by department of Agriculture, the subject expert also explained in depth on harvesting rain water with particular reference to hill areas.
apart from the Department's Plant Pathologist Dr M Thoithoi elucidating on detection and treatment of plant diseases, the expert also held extended interaction session with the farmer participants numbering about 50.
