Ukhrul, Aug 16:
Despite a boycott call echoed by some underground organisations, the 60th India's Independence Day was celebrated at Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) ground located in the Ukhrul district headquarters.
Thousands of people turned up to witness the parade participated by a strength of 37 strong contingents.
Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul Pankaj Pal, IAS attended the function as chief guest.
After hoisting the tri-colour, he said August 15 is a historic day for the Indian.
He further said the Government of India has been making sincere efforts for the development of the region, and mentioned ongoing Indo-Naga peace talks.
The Chief guest also distributed 14 Football, 13 Volly ball, and nine Petro-Max to the selected sports personalities, clubs and to the village chief/headmen apart from giving away prizes to contingents.
