Imphal, January 14: The week-long 23rd Kom Rem Students' conference cum Khurpui Festival (cultural festival of the Kom Rem people) began at Sa-gang Village of Churachandpur district from yesterday.

As many as 900 delegates belonging to Chiru, aimol, Purum and Kom communities are taking part in the festival being held under the theme 'Rise and Shine'.

Debate quiz, extempore speech, panel discussions, games and sports, cultural items and seminars on different topics including health, education and human rights will be the main highlight of the programme.

Ex-Minister S Bira and headmaster of Sagang High School Thangkhupnam attended the inaugural day of the festival as chief guest and president respectively.
