Imphal, June 20 2009:
The Laishram Gouramani Award awarded to the visibly handicap people instituted by Laishram Nabakishore, stone case expert in his father's name conferred to Moirangthem Sunita today.
The award was handed over to the awardee in a function held at Ideal Blind School, Takyelpat orgainsed by the Students Welfare Association for the Blind.
Lok Sabha MP, T Meinya graced the function as chief guest, chairperson of the Manipur Women Corporation AK Meerabai and former president of SWAB Shonlien Kiloung also attended the function as president and guest of honour.
Meinya praised for the institution of the award stating that it will remain forever, Nabakishore contribution is a thing which wealthy men are not done, he added.
The award conferred to Sunita consisted of a cash award of Rs 3000, a citation and momento.
Sunita, the awardee finished MA in English language in Manipur University in 1995.As a blind, she participated in the national level sports meet and secured many gold medals.
