Imphal, October 27:
Observing that enabling of all kinds of shops to sell schedule K drugs after amendment of the Drug and Cosmetic Rules, 1945 would have serious ill-effects on the society, the All Manipur Chemists and Druggists Association (MCDA) has urged the Union Health Ministry not to implement the proposed amended rules.
Together with the All India Chemists and Druggists Association, MCDA has submitted memoranda to the Ministry to this effect.
A statement issued by MCDA noted that enabling shops other than authentic pharmacies to deal in schedule K drugs may entail several unethical practices like increase in spurious and adulterated drugs.
The most threatening aspect of the initiative is that abuse of schedule drugs may aggravate with once such drugs are made available in local shops without relevant licence.
Keeping in view of such possible ill-consequences, MCDA has also appealed to the State Government not to implement the proposed amendment.
