Imphal, February 18, 2010: Secretary of Saivom Village Authority Avei Haokip has clarified that there was no incident of 42 Assam Rifles intercepting a Maruti van and a Hyundai Getz and seizing huge cache of arms and ammunition from near Saivom village or its surrounding area on February 16 evening.

In a statement, the village secretary pointed out that there is no report of such seizure from Bongyang area and the same has been confirmed after meeting the arrested persons who are in the lock-up of Imphal Police Station.

So dragging the name of Saivom village is unfortunate and the Assam Rifles should not resort to such conduct in the future, the village secretary said.
