KSO condemns landmine plantation

Imphal, November 18: The Kuki Students' Organisation, Chandel district has strongly condemned the killing of church Evangelist Thongkhomang Touthang (57) by a landmine explosion at around 10 am of November 16 in Khengjoi area of Chandel district.

A statement issued by the student body noted with disdain that the planting mines were acts of terror.

Observing that such land mines have taken a great toll on the people of Chandel district, it disclosed that Thongkhomang was the 26th victim of landmine explosions since 2001.Taking strong exception to the failure of the authority concerned to take up any remedial measures, KSO Chandel District urged the Government to initiate landmine clearing exercise in the hill areas of Chandel district allegedly planted by some UG groups immediately so that no more lives fell victim to such terrorist acts.
