Imphal, August 24: The 24th annual freshers' meet of the Manipur University was celebrated today with Education Minister L Jayantakumar as chief guest and Vice-Chancellor C Amuba as president.

The function held at the Centenary Hall was also attended by MLAs Dr Kh Loken, M Oken, Dr Usham Deven and T Mangibabu as special guests.

In his address, Jayantakumar called upon the students to work for some substantial positive changes.

He observed that both Government officials and civil society leaders have been blaming each other for the various ailments plaguing the State.

The social maladies can be removed only when all sections of the society ponder over their acts and attitude, he remarked.

The freshers' meet will wind up tomorrow with various entertainment programmes.
