Imphal, April 17: Zomi Re-unification Organisation's president Gengoukhup Mate who had been undergoing treatment at Shija Hospital, Langol after being shot by unidentified gunmen at Tuibong under Churachandpur PS on March 26 succumbed to his injuries last night.

Churachandpur police had already registered a case in connection with the shooting.

Meanwhile, Kuki National Council (KNC) while condoling the death of Gengoukhup Mate also shared the pain and grief of the bereaved family members.

In a statement, KNC information secy L Jacob Khongsai has appealed to the organisation concerned not to repeat such acts in future and added that KNC will not tolerate gunning down of Church leaders or public leaders in future even if they had committed a gross mistake.

He also stated that KNC cadres will take up all preventive measures so that such acts are never repeated again.
