The Army authorities have today refuted the news report about the encounter at Chongmun village under Nungba police station on 20 June 2006, where it was reported that a Jawan of 18 Garhwal Rifle named Sepoy Manoj Singh Rawat was killed by militants.
While refuting the report and terming it as baseless and uncorroborated, published in a section of the press, PIB (DW) said that sepoy Manoj Kumar Rawat laid down his life while fighting militancy in Operation Dragnet on 18 January 2006.There was no encounter with militants on 20 June 2006 in village Chongmun in Tamenglong district, said PIB (DW).
