Nongpok Sekmai BSF post attacked

Imphal, November 01: Unidentified gunmen suspected to be cadres of an underground outfit attacked the 29 BSF post attached to the PHC of Nongpok Sekmai last night at about 7.30 with guns & bombs.

The BSF personnel also retaliated and a gun fight ensued for about ten minutes, said sources.

No BSF personnel was hurt in the attack and it is not known whether the militants suffered any casualty or not.

Reacting strongly to the attack at the BSF post, a public meeting was held at the ground of Sekmai Khumbi High School today at 9.30 am to denounce the assault.

The resolutions adopted at the meeting included appealing to all concerned not to target the BSF post as it is located amid the civil population and such attacks may cause harm to the local people, to stage a torch rally today at 6.30 pm to denounce last night's attack and not to allow any strangers to enter Sikhong Sekmai Nagar Panchayat area after 7 pm.

The meeting also took note of the point that previous appeals have already been issued not to launch any kind of offensive in civilian areas.
