Following the outbreak of whooping cough and malaria at Chassad and Maokot areas in Ukhrul Dist which have claimed nine lives so far, a team of doctors have rushed to the spot today.
The epidemic was confirmed after a spot verification by the DC Dr S Ibomcha, senior physician and Dr L Shyamkumar, paediatrician of JN Hospital, two para medical assistants of Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) of the State Health Department RK Inaotomba and A Chaoba and Male Health Supervisor Chandra Naga along with a consignment of medicines, left for the affected area today, official sources said.
Another medical unit from the Dist Malaria Officer, Ukhrul will accompany the team to combat the outbreak of the epidemic.
