Imphal, November 26 2011: Husband of Yarou Bamdiar Gram Panchayat Pradhan was shot by some unidentified persons at about 7 pm yesterday.

The injured victim identified as Leitanthem Binoy (48) is said to be the husband of Yarou Bamdiar Gram Panchayat Pradhan Leitanthem (O) Sorojini, informed a police source.

A bullet which hit Binoy on the right thigh exited through.

Another bullet which hit him on the buttock exited through the abdomen.

He is currently undergoing treatment in Intensive Care Unit of Shija Hospital.

According to family members, some unidentified youths came to their home at Awang Jiribam Mamang Leikai and asked for Sorojini last night.

As Sorojini was cooking food at the moment, her husband went out to enquire about the visitors.

On seeing Binoy, the youths tried to lead him out to their residential gate saying that the matter could be discussed with Binoy.

However, Binoy insisted that if they should talk about anything, they should talk inside the house.

At this, one of the youths drew out a gun and led out Binoy at gun-point.

The unidentified youths left Binoy near a newly constructed building of Awang Jiri Mamang Leikai LP Boys School after pumping two bullets into his body.

On hearing about the attack on her husband, Sorojini collapsed and lost consciousness.

She is also undergoing treatment at Shija Hospital.

Taking strong exception to the life attempt on Binoy, womenfolk and Meira Paibis of Awang Jiri staged a protest demonstration today at Awang Jiri Mamang Leikai LP Boys School ground.

Konthoujam AC MLA K Sarat who also participated in the protest demonstration condemned the assault on Binoy in the strongest term.

The protesters put up placards and festoons which read as "What is the fault of Binoy", "We want peace", "Don't attack innocent civilians", "We condemn barbarism", "Guns and bombs cannot bring peace" etc.
