Imphal, December 24: A public meeting held at Lamdeng Khunou Lampak today in connection with the December 15 incident in which L Basanta was shot dead and inflicted grievous injuries to Lourembam Sanjit has categorically denounced such brutal acts as act of terrorism and decided to call a 24-hour State-wide general strike with effect from 6 pm of December 26 to 6 pm the following day in protest against the failure of the Government to keep its commitment on the assurance given in this regard.

The meeting was convened by the JAC formed in the backdrop of killing of Basanta and murderous assault upon Sanjit was attended by representatives of many social bodies.

The representatives include those of the UCM, AMUCO, Poirei Leima Meira Paibi Ima Lup, COHR, AMOWVA, All Manipur Women Reformation and Development Samaj, IPSA, Chingmi-Tammi Ima Lup, Kangleichal, Nupi Samaj Ima Lup and Rural United Clubs' Organisation who endorsed decision to appeal to the UG outfit concerned whose name had been used by the main accused Thoudem Premchand and his accomplices at the time of committing the crime to bring out the truth of the matter within December 27.The meeting further resolved to carry on launching various intense agitation till the guilty persons have not been given befitting punishment.
