Imphal, Jun 22:
As the extended term of O Joy Singh as president of MPP for six months would expire on June 30, necessary preparations have been made already for holding the election to elect a new president as well as the office bearers of various committee of the party, general secretary (administration) in-charge of MPP Joy-Group Kshetrimayum Brajamani has stated.
Talking to mediapersons, Brajamani reminded that the term of Joy as the party president of the party was supposed to be expire one day after the presidential election held on December 31 last year.
But as the said presidential election was declared unconstitutional, Joy's term was extended for another six months with effect from January 1 this year in accordance to a decision taken during th special session of the party held on April 26 at Kuki Inn, Imphal.
However, as the special session had also taken a resolution to the effect of not extending the term of the president any more after the expiry of the present term which is due on June 31, the preparations have been made for holding the election of a new president and other office bearers, Brajamani said.
The party has also despatched the necessary papers to all relevant authorities in connection with holding the election of the party president, Brajamani informed, while assuring that the date for convening a party conference to elect the new party president would be announced very soon.
It is said according to the Article 19 of the Constitution of the MPP the notification for convening the party conference to elect the party president should be issued at least 14 days in advance.
However, only 9 days are left from today for the end of June month.
