Imphal, August 21:
Taking strong exception to the act of imposing 48 hours general strike covering August 13 by the All College Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ACTSUM), the United Naga People Council (UNPC) has termed it an act of the most uncivilized nature.
A statement issued by UNPC publicity secretary RN Mathew asserted that the act of calling general strike on August 13 humiliated all the hill people of Manipur.
Observing that August 13 is the day to remember the heroic forefathers and martyrs of Manipur, UNPC remarked that calling strike on the day was an act of immature and demented minds.
In case any body calls general strike on the death anniversary of Zeliangrong people's ideal leader Haipou Jadonang, it will certainly hurt the sentiments of the Zeliangrong people.
Whether it be Chavang Kut or Lui Ngai Ni, calling bandhs on such important days ought to be condemned outright.
Such irresponsible acts of ACTSUM compels one to question whether these acts were handiworks of the NSCN (IM), it alleged.
Stating that winning the heart and mind of Naga people is the principle of the UNPC, it warned that this communal act of ACTSUM should be last and final.
Claiming that it has formulated different schemes for the welfare of Naga people, UNPC appealed to all the Naga people to stay away from alleged communal minded NSCN (IM).
