Imphal, April 20 2010: Expressing apprehension that the fund sanctioned for Rashtiya Madhyamik Shikska Abhiyan (RMSA) can be misused, L.Jayantakumar, education minister while attending the launching ceremony of RMSA informed that Rs.78 crores has been sanctioned in Manipur by the centre for RMSA.

The RMSA launching ceremony was held at Imphal on Tuesday.

Speaking to media persons, L Jayantakumar urged the people to see that the fund sanctioned is not misused.

The education minister then emphasized the need for the co-operation of all the sections of the society including the public, civil society organizations in making the project a grand success.

He also stated that this project is only for the bright future and careers of the children and not for the underground outfits.

Out of the Rs 78 crores, Rs 38 crores have already been released, added L.Jayantakumar.

He also expressed apprehension if fund sanctioned for the maintenance of each of government schools is being misused.

Rs 90,000 is being provided by the RMSA to each headmaster of the government schools of Manipur, informed L.Jayantakumar.

Providing compulsory free education to the children till the age of fourteen should be taken care by the social welfare department while the RMSA would take care of providing secondary education to the children after 14 years till the age of 18, informed L.Jayantakumar.

While maintaining that RMSA is meant for providing compulsory secondary education to the children, he also asked the public to cooperate in making the scheme successful.

Speaking in the occasion, M.Harekrishna, director, education (School) and also state project director, mentioned that Sarba Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) bore huge loss of money in the state and further expressed apprehension if the fund for RMSA would also be misused.

He also revealed that the scheme was to be launched in the month of January this year, however the plan was to be delayed owing to the law and order situation of the state.

While appealing the public of the state to cooperate in making the RMSA success, he also maintained that this scheme is also for developing infrastructure of the government schools of the state.

Government has set a target to develop the schools within three years, informed M.Harekrishna.

Meanwhile, P.K Singh, commissioner, education (School) also sought the cooperation of the public, civil societies, headmasters and every section of the society to cooperate in making the scheme a grand success.
