Source: Hueiyen News Service

Imphal, February 19, 2010: Fifty-five children, aged between 12 and 14 years, rescued from unregistered children home in Chennai and Keinakumari in Tamil Nadu were brought back Imphal Friday by officials of State Child Welfare Council.

With the 55 children brought back today, a total of 74 children of Manipur rescued from unregistered children homes in Tamil Nadu have been brought back.

Recently 19 children of state have been rescued and reunited with their families on February 9. It is estimated that over 200 children had been trafficked from the state in the last two years, 2008-09 with the promise for better life and good education by some persons pretending them to be religious persons but cheated them by trapping in a world of abuse and hard labour.

The 55 children were among 76 children rescued by the officials of the state child welfare council with the help of Tamil Nadu police in the series of raids conducted at the unregistered children homes following the recent rescued of 62 children of Manipur.

Officials rescued them and brought back Imphal said that the 55 state children were from Chandel and Tamenglong districts while the remaining 27 were from north Cachar Hill district of Assam.

They were handed over to the authority of Assam government in Guwahati yesterday.

Two persons, N Poul of Tamenglong and Lotus of Chandel had carried away the children with the promised of better education, the official said adding that they were rescued from two unregistered children homes, one at Chennai and another at Keinakumari.

The children have been kept under observation at the health observation section of the State Child Welfare Council as some of them suffered from diseases while some of tired of long journey.

After a thorough health check up, they will be handed over to their respective homes, the official said.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated, a case of dead of a child in orphan home in Manipur with alleged ill-treatment and medical negligence on the part of the children home came up when the mother of the victim child lodged complaint with the police on Tuesday last.

Churachandpur police has registered a case on the dead of a 15 year old boy in an orphan home in the district after the illiterate mother of the deceased boy lodged complaint of fault play by the authority of the orphan home.

Fifteen year old boy, Lianlemseam, an inmate of Angels Place Orphanage Home died of illness on December 29, 2009 at RIMS Hospital where he was brought up under critical condition.

According to the complaint of his mother on Tuesday, her son died because of negligence of medical care by the authority of the home after he sustained serous injuries when beaten up by the warden of the home named Chingkhanmuang.

Her son, Lianlemseam, was admitted at the Churachandpur district hospital on November 28, 2009 when he sustained injuries at the back, leg and hands in the beaten up incident.

However, before he was fully recovered and against the advice of the doctors and nurse attending the boy, authority of the home taken back the boy to the home.

The mother complaint the police that even though her son was not fully recovered, authority of the home told lie to her when she visited frequently to the home that her son has now fully recovered and started playing with his friends.

But, his condition becomes more and more critical and brought up to the RIMS Hospital, Imphal on December 29, 2009 where doctors confirmed that he was suffering from severe anemia with sock.

The mother also gave reason for her delay in lodging complaint to the police as she wanted to settle the matter with the authority of the orphanage sponsored by James Connection Trust, Pillerbung, Pennsylvania, USA, President Jon C Swensen Trustee Jesus Bullard from Manassas and three church leaders of India.

However, they disregard her plea after she was coerced to sign in an affidavit, the mother complained the police who registered a case under FIR no.9 (2) 2010 of Churachandpur PS under section 326/307/302/IPC on Tuesday last.
