Imphal, January 18: The Democratic Students' Alliance of manipur has announced permanent closure of Irengbam Thamcha Devi Nursing & Health Care Research Institute, Uripok with immediate effect on charges that the institute is not affiliated to relevant board/council and that it was established to dupe students for monetary gain of those running the same.

Cautioning affiliated/recognised nursing schools from entertaining any correspondence by authorities of Irengbam Thamcha Devi Nursing & Health Care Research Institute for affiliation/attachment, the student body claimed of huge publicity campaign by the said institute to lure students/candidates enrol at the uripok Institute only the admitted students to later realise their folly.

Highlighting that in the previous session, students pulled out from the nursing school after realising the Thamcha Institute had no GNM course as was published in the media, DESAM also alleged that with GNM 1st Examination round the corner (Jan 21), authorities of the said Institute communicated to Assam Nursing Council as recent as January 10 to facilitate its (Thamcha's) students appear at the said examination under the patronage of Nightingale Nursing Institution, Porompat.

Pointing out that such a move is in total violation of existing norms of Indian Nursing Council, DESAM also recounted that following sustained campaign in the last few years many dubious nursing schools in the State were asked to cease as they were found not complying or affiliated to either the INC or Assam Nursing Council.

Reminding all concerned that nursing profession is a vital life saving component of the society's many machinery, DESAM insisted it would never tolerate nursing institutions that could not guarantee efficiency and reliability of their product and remain muted to setting up of dubious institutions whose only purpose is financial gain.

Mentioning that under the INC and Indian Medical Council guidelines it is essential for nursing schools and medical colleges to have proper and appropriate infrastructure, DESAM charged the Uripok institute of not conforming to the regulation in any manner thereby meriting closure as repeated reminders to authorities of the institution hardly evoked any positive measures.
