Ukhrul, May 17:
Worried over the new twist to loanees by the loaners resentment is brewing among scores of loanees who hopefully deposited Rs 6000 each some three years back to a registered society Ukhrul District Educated Unemployment Thrift & Credit Co-operative Society, Limited (UDEUTCCOS-Ltd) The expectant loanees conveyed deep regret and frustration on slow pace of necessary processes in extending the loans even after the society assured to pay the same after three months of depositing mandatory nominal membership fee of Rs 50 and another share deposit of Rs 3000 refundable after 5 years without interest, in addition to form fee of Rs 100 plus processing and service charge of 3 percent of the total sanction amount calculated to tally Rs One lac.
However, inspite of adhering all the society norms and rules & regulation through depositing the said amount in 2004-05 the loanees have not yet received the money till today consequently leading to anxiety and apprehension of losing their hard earned money.
One Ms.Ngalapan Kaping states that about 130 loanees had deposited the money to UDEUTCCOS-Ltd.
under the concept that after the stipulated three month period the society would provide the loan amount to each loanee.
She maintained that even after waiting for over years neither is there progress nor had payment been made to anyone and decried such unjustifiable conduct of the society.
Another loanee, Mrs Pokhami Silo, added that due to non-payment of the loan amount some loanees had surrendered their application after one and half year and their deposited money had been returned without any interest.
However, on her case she took another loan of Rs 6000 at 10 percent interest in order to procure the loan of Rs One lakh from this society.
she further contended that UDETCCOS-Ltd had stated to charge only Rs 4 per annum but all her plans have been shattered as she had to endure timely clearance of interest.
When this correspondent inquired in the office of the Society located at Phungreitang main road (Ukhrul) it was found that the office has been already closed about nine months back without any office attendance with the exception of the sign board still spotted hanging.
When queried owner of the building an elderly woman informed that due to some anomalies the manager and some staff have moved out under some pretext only to fail to return back.
Amidst such fraud and fake promises at the cost of the poor, the loanees have been left with no option other than resolving to file a PIL in case the society fail to pay the loan within May 20 of the current year.
