Imphal, November 16 2010: In view of continuous scarcity of fuel oils in the State, IOC officials and the State Government have agreed on requisition of more oil tankers as well as using NH 53 for transportation of petroleum products.

An understanding to this effect was arrived at during a joint meeting of State Government officials and IOC officials held today.

The IOC team included its head office Executive Director (Ops) M Raman, Deputy GM (Ops) Sajan Kumar, Deputy GM of Guwahati State office (Ops) P Anbalagan and GM (Guwahati office) A Pandiya.

The State Government was represented by the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, DGP and relevant officials.

CRPF representatives also attended the meeting.

Before the meeting, the IOC officials called on the Chief Minister and discussed the problems of fuel oil scarcity being faced by the State.

Later during the meeting, the two sides agreed on requisition of more tankers and also send oil tankers along NH 53 too, in addition to NH 39 .

Meanwhile, an official source informed that oil-tankers may go for ferrying petroleum products along NH 53 on Nov 17 or 18. However, till tomorrow, most oil-tankers will travel on NH 39 .

The CM asked the CRPF representatives to be punctual in their escort service being provided for vehicles travelling from Khatkhati to Imphal.

In an effort to make petrol and diesel available to the public readily, the meeting agreed on asking the IOC to give four kilolitres of fuel to all oil-pumps located in Imphal West and East districts and 12 Kls each to oil-pumps in other districts considering lesser number of oil-pumps located in these areas.

The IOC officials, on their part, urged upon the State Govt to expedite process for construction of a rail-fed oil depot at Malom.

The IOC officials would leave Imphal tomorrow.
