Stepping up counter insurgency operation ahead of the forthcoming Assembly elections, atleast three underground activists of two different outfits have been arrested along with recovery of arms and ammunition from their possession during search operations conducted by a combined team of Imphal East District Police Commandos and 32 Assam Rifles in the last 24 hours.
Talking to mediapersons at his office chamber today, Additional SP of Imphal East District Th Radheshyam informed that the combined team launched the operation at Thongju Part-II yesterday and at Kiyamgei Awang Leikai, which is situated just adjacent to Thongju Assembly Constituency.
One UNLF cadre was arrested during the search operation conducted at Thongju Part-II.
The arrested cadre has been identified as Nungleppam Boyai alias Yaima (29) s/o N Khorobi, Radheshyam said.
During the course of interrogation, Boyai disclosed that he joined UNLF in January 1999 through one Amuchou and had undergone training at Honjak of Nagaland under army no 1025 of 17th batch of the outfit and he was discharging his duty as a sergeant of the outfit, the Additional SP informed.
He further informed that the search operation at Kiyamgei Awang Leikai was launched based on specific information that some cadre of the proscribed PULF are taking shelter in a house belonging to one Md Juber Ali.
During the operation, Md Juber Ali alias Chingkhuba (41) s/o of late Nizam of Kiyamgei Awang Leikai, who turned out to be a self styled project officer of PULF was arrested from his own house.
Later on, following his disclosure, another cadre of the outfit identified as Md Rafique (37) s/o late Nizamuddin alias Khomei was also arrested.
Md Juber joined the outfit in February 2006 through its chief project officer Poireilemba and Md Rafique who presently works in the finance section joined the outfit through Md Juber Ali, the Additional SP said, adding that one AK-47 Rifle, one magazine and 10 rounds of live ammunition have also been recovered from the possession of Md Juber.
