Imphal, December 15 2010:
Unlike in past years, the 19th Imphal Book Fair was kicked off today at Iboyaima Shumang Lila Shanglen, Konung Mamang with 32 stalls and a few books.
The book fair jointly organized by the State Central Library, Imphal and Raja Rammohon Roy Library Foundation, Kolkata will continue for 10 days.
Health and Family Minister, Ph Parijat, MLA Sapam Kunjakeshore and Director, Arts and Culture, Dr K Sobita attended the inaugural function as chief guest, guest of honour and president.
A total of 32 stalls including 10 stalls of book firm from outside of Manipur are participating in the fair.
Book firms from Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati and Vishakhapatnam are opening their stalls in the fair.
Many firms from outside the state which were supposed to come here are participating in a book fair at Guwahati which begins from December 10 .
Speaking on the occasion, Ph Parijat said that there are many books on different topics in the book fair.
Books are the windows to the world of knowledge.
They tell us various informations about different communities, jobs, sciences and many other subjects and topics.
People should develop the habit of reading.
The book fair will open to visitors from 9.30 am to 7 pm daily.
