Manipur University students pursuing higher studies by availing hostel facilities are highly disturbed when the University Authority have hiked mess fee beyond affordable limit by student community.
In a press conference held at Student Home in Manipur University, MU Students' Welfare Committee charged that the MU authority have hiked mess fee 25 percent higher than the normal rate with effect from July this year.
They also said that MU authority has also issued a notification for payment of 3 months mess fee in advance with an instruction to leave the hostel to those students who could not afford to pay the amount.
Student Welfare Committee said the situation has totally disoriented academic atmosphere to students pursuing higher studies by availing the hostel facilities in only University in the state.
They also lamented that mess in charge as well as registrar of the university has not accepted to consider the pleas of the hostellers to consider for normalization of the hostel mess fee which was hiked during prolonged economic blocked in Manipur.
In today's press conference the Student Welfare Committee has sent out appeal to concerned authorities to consider for reduction in hike in hostel mess fee on or before August 18, they also went on to add that if their appeal turn out to be futile, they would be constrained to launch agitation to press their demand from August 19 .
