Imphal, Aug 14:
A police commando suffered bullet injuries on the leg when unidentified gunmen opened fire near Naral Konjin Pukhri Achouba Mapal yesterday at about 10.30 pm.
According to reports, the unidentified gunmen opened about 80 rounds of fire from Naral Konjin Pukhri Achouba Mapal side towards Haoreibi Awang Leikai during which one house belonging to Mayengbam Iboyaima was damaged badly.
Most of the villagers also fled the locality and stayed awake all night due to fear for the worst.
Empty cases of fired bullets and other evidences of the unidentified gunmen taking their positions at the spot were observed today.
Had his son, M Jit (16) not gone to a music concert, he would have fallen victim to the indiscriminate and unprovoked firing as many of the bullets landed just above his bed, Iboyaima conveyed with a sigh of relief.
Saying that bullets fired yesterday were of AK rifles, volunteers of the Northern Star Club collected more than 20 spent bullets, they said.
Questioning the identity of the miscreants, they informed that the gunmen came in three Gypsys.
