Trinamool Congress General Secretary to visit State

Imphal, November 13 2011: Trinamool Congress General Secretary and Union Home Transport and Shipping Minister Mukul Roy would visit the State on November 18, and it is likely that Trinamool Congress would announce the first list of its candidates who would contest in the forthcoming Manipur Legislative Assembly elections on the same day.

Speaking to media persons at their office today, Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress president and former MP Kim Gangte said that the Union Minister would be accompanied by the party's North East in-charge KD Singh during his two-day visit to the State.

The Union Minister would meet social workers, civil society leaders and scholars and collect their opinions and views regarding the law and order situation and other issues of Manipur.

She also said that the first list of its candidates may be announced during the General Secretary's visit.

Stating that the Government appeared to be doing very little to get the highway blockade lifted because of which people have been enduring extreme misery, Kim Gangte pointed out that it is the responsibility of the Government to redress the plight of its citizens.

Observing that Union Home Minister P Chidambaram did not do anything substantial to get the blockade lifted during his recent visit to the State, Kim Gangte asserted that Chidambaram visited Manipur not as Union Home Minister but as a Congress MP.

She further asserted that many flagship programmes taken up by the UPA Government of which Trinamool Congress is coalition partner, have not been implemented properly in Manipur.

She said that the matter would be informed to the party's central leaders.

Whereas the Congress party has immersed itself in an inauguration spree as the elections approach, Imphal city is now filled with dirt and debris due to demolition of several standing structures in the name of development, she alleged.

Expressing surprise over the Most Improved State Award given to Manipur Government by India Today, the former MP asserted that denying Konthoujam AC MLA what is entitled to other MLAs is tantamount to challenging the whole populace of Konthoujam AC .

Meanwhile, in connection with the forthcoming elections, Trinamool Congress has opened one office at Thongam Leikai under Singjamei AC .

Speaking at the opening function of the office, Y Khemchand who is preparing to fight the elections in Singjamei AC said that many political leaders have joined Trinamool Congress, and that this an indication to looming changes in the political landscape of Manipur.

Highlighting the importance for a political change to bring about economic development in the State, Khemchand claimed that if the people elects a coalition Government of which Trinamool Congress is a constituent party, the level of corruption can be reduced considerably and there would be development in different sectors.

He further asserted that the people have learnt through RTI the sitting MLA of Singjamei AC has swindled a large amount of public fund.

He also demanded the MLA to clarify on the matter.
