The 59th Army Day was celebrated today at Leimakhong military garrison.
The celebration was marked by display of fly-past by Cheetah helicopters by the soldiers of Red Shield Division.
Moreover, weapons and equipment of latest generation used by the Indian Army and exciting dog show by tracker and guard dogs were other attractions of the celebration.
Amongst the weapon on display was 30 mm Automatic Grenade System capable of firing 350-400 grenades per minute.

The second generation FAGGOT missile which has the capability of hitting moving tanks at the range of 2500 metres was also displayed. The Cassiper vehicle imported from South Africa for use in counter insurgency operations against IEDs was also put on display.
The vehicle provides protection from small arms fire and IED to the troops travelling in it.
The ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) used in bomb disposal was also displayed. Addressing the gathering which also included civilians and school children, GOC Red Shield Division Maj Gen EJ Kochekkan conveyed his best wishes to all ranks of the army, their families and the people of Manipur. Saying that the army enjoys a symbiotic relationship with the people of Northeastern States, Kochekkan highlighted the various development projects undertaken by the Red Shield Division for the development of Manipur .
