The body of the 3rd IRB Rifleman who was killed in the shoot out with underground activists while patrolling near the Moreh Gate Number 2 last night has been handed over to his bereaved family members after paying the last respect to the deceased at the parade ground of I MR campus here today.
The slain Rifleman has been identified as Jamkhulen Haokip (25) of Sugnu Khudang Village.
He was a married man having one daughter.
His wife is said to be in the seventh month of pregnancy at present.
The post mortem was conducted at RIMS today.
According to information given by other Riflemen who were on patrol duty along with Jamkhulen at Moreh last night, the attack was launched while they were on petrol duty and just after the light went off.
If the attack had taken place while there was light, then there would have been casualties on the side of the UGs as well, they said.
On fatal bullet that was hit below the left armpit of Jamkhulen exited on the other side.
After the post mortem at RIMS mortuary, his body was brought at the parade ground of I MR at around 1.30 pm where Chief Minister of Ibobi Singh, his Cabinet colleagues, ADGP Syed Ahamed, IG, DIG, SPs and COs offered floral tributes and observed silence as mark of respect to the departed soul.
A contingent of the I MR also offered gun salute at the occasion.
Afterward, his body was handed over to his family members for performing the customary last rites.
