Imphal, Jul 11:
Dimapur Meetei Union has appealed to the Manipuri people for every possible co-operation and support in completion of the Manipur Rest House which is being constructed inside the complex of Manipur State Road Transport Corporation at Dimapur.
It is said the Union has taken up the onus of setting up the Rest House to solve the problem of accommodation faced by Manipuri people during their travel.
Talking to mediapersons at the office of Kangleipakki Meira at Keishampat here this afternoon, secretary of Dimapur Meetei Union Binod Khaba said that apart from the problem of lodging and fooding, Manipuri travellers also faced numerous other of inconveniences like arrival at the train late in the night, looting, etc.
These inconveniences could not be solved by around 10,000 Manipuri people settling in Dimapur alone.
So the idea of setting up the Rest House took shape with the hope that it would redress the problems of the Manipuri travellers to some extent, and the construction of the Rest House began with the support of the people.
The construction of the Resr House began with laying of the foundation stone on January 5, 2002.The size of the Rest House is 120 x 40 feet and so far the construction work has reached till the window level and around Rs 7 lakhs.
It is being estimated that another Rs 6 lakhs would be required for the completion of the ground floor, Binod said, while appealing to all the people for extending their support and co-operation in completion of the Rest House.
He further informed that a sum of Rs 3,22,360 had been collected as fund for the construction of the Rest House from the lottery organised last year.
It is with this amount that the construction of the Rest House is being carried out presently.
To cough up the fund required for the completion of construction of the ground floor, Union would be organising an entertainment programme on September 17 this year and it would be participated by many well-known artistes.
On behalf of the Dimpur Meetei Union, Binod further expressed gratitude to one Keisham Modhu of keishampat Junction who has volunteered to donate all the required money for the construction/completion of a room of the Rest House.
