Holding of plebiscite under the UN supervision jointly at the hills and the valley areas of Manipur toward resolving the existing Manipur-India conflict has been endorsed during a public meeting held at Langdum Community Hall in Imphal East yesterday.
Apart from extending full support to the movement being launched for holding the plebiscite, the meeting jointly organised by YBC, YDO, LSSD, WWA and LIMCA also resolved submit a written representation to the UN for exerting pressure on the Government of India for taking up necessary measures toward fulfilling the aspiration of the Manipuri people.
Social worker S Lala, retired head master Y Sarat Singh and Uppa Pradhan of Keirao Gram Panchayat Arambam Ongbi Balaleima attended meeting as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Advocate Y Devdutta, social activist Joy Nongmaithemcha and joint secretary of Social Advance Movement, Manipur Ayekpam Luko were among resource persons who made their observations on the issue during the meeting.
While emphasising on the role of the people in resolving the Manipur-India conflict, a similar public meeting held under the theme of 'Role of people in resolving the Manipur-India conflict' at Thiyam Konjil today has also resolved to ensure free and fair conduct of the proposed plebiscite in Manipur.
The meeting held under the aegis of Social Welfare Education and Cultural Association, a joint body of local clubs of Thiyam Konjil area, further made a fervent appeal to the UN for taking special attention in this regard.
Former secretary of Ibudhou Phunal Ningthou Lai Haraoba Committee Thiyam Kaoba Singh, former president of Thiyam Konjil Maning Leikai Marup Thongram Noyon Singh respectively graced the meeting as chief guest and president.
