The augmented water supply treatment plant of Jessami was commissioned by PHED Minister TN Haokip yesterday.
Augmentation work of the water treatment plant began from 2003.
The inaugural function held yesterday was also attended by Chairman of Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) MLA A Aza and MLA of Tadubi Assembly Constituency RK Theko.
On the way to Jessami to commission the water treatment plant, the two MLAs and the Minister visited many villages within Chingai Assembly segment like Namrei, Kharasom, Nungbi and Ukhrul where they distributed several sports goods.
The water treatment plant commissioned yesterday was augmented by PHED at the cost of Rs 8.30 lakhs.
The plant consists of a settling tank of 0.27 lakh litres capacity, two units of slow sand filter of capacities one lakh litres each and a service reservoir of capacity 0.45 litres of water.
The plant is expected to supply tap water to more than 300 households of Jessami.
After the water treatment plant was commissioned, TN Haokip and MLAs A Aza and RK Theko talked with the villagers on their problems and plight.
The villagers urged TN Haokip who also holds the Tourism portfolio to take up the construction of tourist home at Mewu-Chiekhe which was earlier initiated in 2002-03.As per the wish of the people, the Minister assured to construct the tourist home and visited the site of two acres at Mewu-Chiekhe where the tourist home was proposed earlier.
Even as the construction work could not be completed within the tenure of the SPF Government which is nearing its end, TN Haokip pledged that he would make all arrangements so that the next Government can complete the construction work.
Concerning the frequent discord with Nagaland over border disputes in Jessami which lies at the border of Manipur, TN Haokip observed such disputes were a common phenomenon in all border areas even in the local level while adding that it would not be in the best of interest to make a big issue out of it.
The boundary disputes date back many years.
He noted that the matter could be settled in one day by the officials of the Nagaland and Manipur Governments.
He said that the officials concerned of both the States have been working an understanding.
TN Haokip further said that all necessary efforts would be put in to make Jessami a model village.
On the way back to Imphal, the team led by PHED Minister inspected water supply facilities in Longpi, Nungbi and other places within Chingai assembly constituency.
