The 3rd State Children's Assembly and Integration Camp, 2006 which would continue for five days has begun from today at Bal Bhavan, Khuman Lampak here.
Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Govindas Konthoujam, Social Welfare Minister DK Korungthang and MLA of Sekmai A/C N Biren Singh attended the inaugural function of the camp being organised under the aegis of Women and Child Development Division of Social Welfare Department as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
In his address, Govindas said that the National Sports Academy proposed to be set up inside the Khuman Lampak sports complex under DONER Ministry with fund from Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources would not affect the Bal Bhavan and every possible efforts would be made so that the Bal Bhavan is not shifted from its present location.
Telling the participating children 'You are the world, you are the future', the Minister said staying together of all the children belonging to various communities and coming from different districts of the State at one place exemplifies true meaning of unity in diversity.
The Minister also announced that surprise visits would be made to see the activities of the Anganwadi workers as part of the welfare programmes being taken up by the Social Welfare Department for the benefit of the children.
In his presidential address, Social Welfare Minister DK Korungthang said children are the future of the society so parents, guardians, teachers and other leaders should ensure a conducive atmosphere where the children can grow and develop properly.
Children should also realise their role and responsibility in nation building and study hard so that can contribute their mite in the society in various capacities, the Minister added.
While welcoming the announcement made by the chief guest for paying surprise visit to Anganwadi centres, the Minister also appealed to all the officers and staff of the Social Welfare Department to discharge their duties sincerely and efficiently.
Around 300 children coming from all the nine districts of the State are taking part in the five-day long camp which would provide a platform for displaying their latent talents in various fields like singing, dancing, drama, etc.
In all 27 selected Anganwadi workers were also honoured with Best Anganwadi worker awards during the function.
The award comprise of a citation, a shawl and a cash amount of Rs 2500.
