Imphal, November 01:
Conveying deep concern over the numerous human casualties caused by IED explosions, the Kuki Students' Organisation, Khengjoi Block has condemned the diabolic acts of planting Improvised Explosive Devices in civilian areas which have claimed many precious lives so far besides rendering many others maimed for life.
A statement issued by KSO, while taking strong exception to the IED blast of October 30 at around 9:30 am on the road from Maokot to Simol under Chakpikarong sub-division of Chandel district, questioned the motive behind plantation of IEDs on public roads and at places frequented by civilians.
The blast claimed the right foot of Phallam Khongsai (27) w/o Thongngam Khongsai of Simol under Molcham police station.
The unfortunate victim and her husband along with six other persons which included three minor children were on their way home after shopping at Sugnu.
On October 29, at Zoupi they were not allowed to proceed further by 16 AR citing security reasons.
On the next day, the innocent villagers including Phallam were allowed to proceed only to step on an IED planted right in the middle of the road.
Leaving behind a trail of blood because of profuse bleeding, the helpless husband lifted her on the shoulder and carried all the way to 16 AR post at Zoupi where Phallam was given first aid before evacuating to RIMS for further treatment.
Saying that terror is writ large in the faces of all the innocent villagers of the area following the cruel blow, the student body questioned any conceivable benefit out of such terrorist activities .
It further asked whether victimisation of innocent civilians for whom they claimed to be fighting for, would serve any purpose.
KSO also demanded apology from all concerned for the heartless crime.
It also reiterated its appeal to AR units not to impede free movement of civilians in their search for livelihoods.
Urging the State Government to take up precautionary measures immediately to ward off any human casualty from the dreaded IED menace, KSO pleaded the Government to extend compensation and medical expenses to the unfortunate victim.
Further, the student body observed that all social organisations, NGOs and Churches ought to come together and condemn such barbarious crimes against humanity.
And they need to strive united to restore peace in the trouble torn area.
