Imphal, July 27:
Four underground activists of proscribed PLA including a female cadre and one UNLF member have been apprehended by a combined force of Thoubal Police Commandos and personnel of 33 Assam Rifles during search operations launched in different parts of Thoubal district during the last 24 hours.
According to police information, the combined force arrested a self styled corporal of PLA identified as Thingujam Jiten alias Vinod (25) s/o Yaima from Waikhong Bazar Maning Leikai at around 4 am yesterday.
His army number is 1466 and works in the mobile battalion number 253 of the outfit.
He was involved in the bombing incidents at Keirak on June 20 and at Waithou on July 10, the police source said, while informing that a hand grenade had been recovered from him.
The combined team also arrested three other PLA activists and one UNLF cadre during search operation conducted in Kakching Khunou and its surrounding area early morning today.
The arrested PLA activists are identified as major Laishram Rohen Singh alias Langamba (28) s/o L Ibomcha of Chairel Khongnang Leikai, Pukhrambam Maimu Singh (27) s/o P Kullabidhu of Thongam Maning Leingang Ching Leikai and Elangbam Bembem alias Rani (23) d/o E Chaoba Singh of Wabagai Kadajit Thingel Leikai.
Langamba was arrested from Chairel area at around 4.30 am along with one 9 mm pistol and three live rounds of ammunition, Maimu from Kakching Khunou at around 5.05 am along with incriminating documents while Rani who is said to be an IED expert from Kakching Khunou area at around 6.30 am.
