The Manipur pavilion put up in the silver jubilee edition of India International Trade Fair 2005 at Pragati maiden, New Delhi is beginning to draw steady crowd including inquisitive foreign tourists.
Handloom and handicraft products being displayed at the State stalls in addition of attracting domestic buyers are beginning to draw attention of foreigners ever since the biggest trade fair of the country started on Nov 14.Contrary to the fair theme this time around is �Power and Communication� most stalls belonging to the State is dominated by handloom & handicraft products and some small scale industry items.
Other items witnessing encouraging demands include Light Emitting Diode (LED) display board produced by a private firm - SRM Electrical while handloom and handicraft based firms like Chingjaroi CC handloom and Handicraft Cooperative Society and Standard Weavers� Cooperative Society Ltd.
New entrant at the trade fair from the state which is another attraction include Chakhao Kher and Loktak packaged drinking water, informed Additional Director of State�s Commerce and industries Department V Jouthang, who is the Director Manipur Pavilion of the ongoing fair.
He also informed of Manipur pavilion composed of 19 firms and two display stalls of accumulating about Rs 5 lakhs as sale proceeds from the fair since the State took part.
Listing previous achievements the Pavilion director said Manipur attained gold medal sale in the 1981-82 IITF followed by similar feat in the 1986-87 edition, with bronze medal status in 1997-98 ending on silver four years back.
V Jouthang exuded confidence of reaching the gold medal mark this year too and informed of products worth over Rs 40,000 being sold in the silver jubilee edition of the fair with the demand growing by each passing day.
As usual the indigenous culinary items - Shingju/Bora - is the strongest crowd puller satisfying both the Indian and foreign taste buds.
